Abstract:

[PROBLEMS] To provide a sliding member which has excellent initial fitting properties with a counter material and has a large abrasion loss reduction effect, particularly a piston ring which uses a cast iron cylinder liner as a counter material, has excellent initial fitting properties, and has a large abrasion loss reduction effect. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] In a sliding member having a sliding face covered with an amorphous hard carbon film, the surface of the amorphous hard carbon film has a ten-point mean roughness (Rz) of not more than 0.7 µm and an initial abrasion roughness (Rpk) of 0.07 to 0.14 µm. Preferably, the counter material has a sliding face roughness of 2 to 4 µm in terms of ten-point mean roughness (Rz).
