Description:
DESCRIPTION

A SLIDING ROOF MECHANISM

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a sliding roof mechanism which enables to carry long products exceeding the height of the luggage volume by enabling to open the roof part of loading compartment in commercial vehicles, and enables the materials to be connected to a portable crane from the loading part.

Background of the Invention

Commercial vehicle is the general name of vehicles which are produced and used for load-carrying and passenger transportation. These vehicles are classified as light, medium-sized, heavy commercial vehicles according to their transport capacities and maximum weights. Commercial vehicles with gross vehicle weight less than 3500kg constitute the group of "light commercial vehicles".

Market share of light commercial vehicles increases with each passing day owing to their convenience for urban use by means of their small size and compliance with various applications. These vehicles are usually used for load-carrying. Capacities of loading parts of light commercial vehicles become insufficient as sizes of the load to be carried enlarge. In such cases, vehicles with larger capacities are needed. And these vehicles lead to difficulties in urban use. For example, medium-sized commercial vehicles are needed when it is desired to transport a refrigerator bought from a store and these vehicles cannot enter narrow streets. Transport of long loads such as refrigerator is frequently carried out by pickup trucks but the fact that the bodies of the pickup trucks are open causes the usage areas of them to be limited. In another example, middle commercial vehicles are needed for carrying in production facilities, the reason for that is the said vehicles being able to maneuver easily inside the production facility and access whole area in the facility. However the middle commercial vehicles used in production facility cause inefficiency for the facility due to not being able to use portable cranes in loading the vehicle and transport of the loaded product in carrying of heavy materials. The sliding roof mechanism in the vehicles are comprised of movable and fixed roof. The movable roof is in the same axis with the fixed roof when the sliding roof mechanism is in fully closed state. In opening sliding roof mechanism, the movable roof moves on the rail mechanism and comes up on the fixed roof. The movable cover is connected on the rail with a connection member and thus the movable roof moves on the rail mechanism. During the movement of the movable roof, load is applied on the said connection member and if the load value affecting the connection member is higher than the amount which the connection member can endure, the connection member can break and system is locked. In a rear loading door opening system for family type or light commercial vehicles in the state of the art, the loading door is comprised of a rear cover and an upper cover which is opened by sliding on the vehicle. By means of this mechanism, the loading process becomes easier and high products are enabled to be loaded while the upper cover is open.

In a roof mechanism for rear load compartments of family type, terrain or light commercial vehicles in the state of the art, the parts forming the rear part are folded via a mechanism and uncover the upper part of the vehicle back, and transform the vehicle body into a structure that looks like a pick-up body Thus, loads height of which goes beyond the height of the vehicle roof can be transported as well.

The Problems Solved with the Invention The objective of the present invention is to provide a sliding roof mechanism which enables long loads to be carried for light commercial vehicles. Another objective of the present invention is to provide a sliding roof mechanism which enables to receive material from the loading part of the light commercial vehicles via a portable crane.

A further objective of the present invention is to provide a sliding roof mechanism which minimizes the loads coming on the connection member provided on the sliding roof mechanism and lifting the movable cover upwards. Another objective of the invention is to provide a cost-efficient sliding roof mechanism for light commercial vehicles.

A. Vehicle Roof

A sliding roof mechanism (1), which enables to carry long products exceeding the height of the luggage volume by enabling to open the roof part of loading compartment in commercial vehicles, and enables the materials to be connected to a portable crane from the loading part, essentially comprises

at least one roof cover (2) which is placed into the opening made on the vehicle roof (A),

- at least one motor (3) which enables the roof cover (2) to move on the vehicle roof (A) and parallel to the vehicle roof (A),

at least one pulley (4) which has a circular form and is connected to the motor (3) shaft from the center point,

at least one wire (5) which is connected to the movable roof (2) from its one end and which is wound around the pulley (4) from its other end,

at least one guide rail (6) which is placed on the vehicle roof (A) and which guides to the point where the roof cover (2) will move,

at least one connection member (7) which is connected to the wire (5) in the guide rail (6), moves on the guide rail (6) via this wire (5) and which is connected to the roof cover (2), at least one opening (8) which is provided between the guide rail (6) and the connection member (7) and which forms the space required for the connection member (7) to move when a load comes on the connection member (7). The inventive sliding roof mechanism (1) has an opening in the same width and length with the roof cover (2) on the vehicle roof (A). The sliding roof mechanism

(1) is in closed state when the roof cover (2) is on the said opening. When the roof cover (2) is moved such that will come over the vehicle roof (A), the sliding door mechanism (1) comes to the open position.

The electric motor (3) is preferably placed on the vehicle roof (A). The shaft of the electric motor (3) is attached to the center point of the circular pulley (4). The wire (5) is wound on the said pulley (4). The pulley (4) rotates around its own axis with the rotary motion in the motor (3), and thus the wire (5) is enabled to be wound or unwound on the pulley (4). The other part of the wire (5) which is not wound on the pulley (4) passes through the guide rail (6), and it is connected to the connection member (7) preferably via welding or adhesion method. The part of the connection member below the roof cover (2) is connected to the roof cover

(2) preferably with welding or adhesion method. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the connection member (7) is in form of a protrusion extending towards the guide rail (6) from below the roof cover (2).

The guide rail (6) extends from back part of the vehicle towards the front. The closed surface of the guide rail (6) having U shape is positioned such that it will come over the vehicle roof (A). In a different embodiment of the invention, U section guide rail (6) is placed into an opening made on the vehicle roof (A). In one embodiment of the invention, there is channel in the inner part of the U section guide rail (6) in which the wire (5) can be placed. The wire (5) moves back and forth in guide rail (6) axis inside the said channel. The roof cover (2) which is connected to the wire (5) via the connection member (7) and which is provided inside the opening goes above the vehicle roof (A) depending on the movement of the front connection member (7) along the guide rail (6) with the movement provided from the motor (3).

The roof cover (2) applies load on the connection member (7) during the movement which it performs in order to go over the vehicle roof (A). The connection member (7) having flexibility feature absorbs the loads coming thereon due to the movement of the roof cover (2) by means of its flexibility feature. Furthermore, a space required to absorb loads applied on the connection member (7) is formed by means of the opening (8) provided between the guide rail (6) and the connection member (7). By this means, the loads coming on the connection member (7) are minimized and the roof cover (2) opens without problem.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is an anti-pitch feature which stops operation when the motor (3) faces a force in opposite direction of the rotary movement.

A sliding roof mechanism (1), which enables to carry long products exceeding the height of the luggage volume by enabling to open the roof part of loading compartment in commercial vehicles, and enables the materials to be connected to a portable crane from the loading part, essentially comprises

at least one roof cover (2) which is placed into the opening made on the vehicle roof (A),

at least one motor (3) which enables the roof cover (2) to move on the vehicle roof (A) and parallel to the vehicle roof (A),

at least one pulley (4) which has a circular form and is connected to the motor (3) shaft from the center point,

at least one wire (5) which is connected to the movable roof (2) from its one end and which is wound around the pulley (4) from its other end,

- at least one guide rail (6) which is placed on the vehicle roof (A) and which guides to the point where the roof cover (2) will move, at least one luggage rack (9) which is form of a plate extending from the open end of the guide rail (6) outwards, which has at least one wheel (10) mounted on this plate structure and positioned such that it will contact the inner walls of the guide rail (6), and which moves along the guide rail (6) via the wheels (10) inside the guide rail (6) upon the wire (5) being stretched by being connected to the wire (5) inside the guide rail (5).

The other part of the wire (5) which is not wound on the pulley (4) passes through the guide rail (6) and it is connected to a luggage rack (9). The luggage rack (9) has a plate form extending from the open end of the guide rail (6) to outwards. It has at least one wheel (10) which is mounted on the said plate and positioned such that it will contact the inner walls of the guide rail (6).
