Abstract:
Disclosed is a sliding surface material having minimal swelling and excellent friction and wear characteristics when used in wet environments such as in water, and superior friction and wear characteristics under dry friction conditions in open air and in particular under journal oscillation conditions. Further disclosed is a multilayer sliding member provided with the sliding surface material on a sliding surface. The sliding surface material (12) is formed by impregnating a resol-type phenolic resin having tetrafluoroethylene resin dispersed therein, into a reinforced base configured from a woven fabric formed by using a ply-yarn as the warp and weft thread. The ply-yarn is formed of at least a single-twist yarn of fluororesin fibre and a single-twist yarn of polyester fibre which are arranged and twisted in the opposite direction to the direction of the single-twist yarn. The overall shape of the multilayer sliding member is either planar or cylindrical, and the member is provided with the sliding surface material on at least the sliding surface.
