Abstract:

Disclosed is a sliding surface material that exhibits minimal swelling when used in wet environments such as water, and excellent friction and abrasion characteristics under the same conditions, as well as improved friction and abrasion characteristics under dry friction conditions in open air. Also disclosed is a multilayer sliding member equipped with said sliding surface material on the sliding surface. The sliding surface material (12) is prepared by impregnating a resol type phenol resin with a tetrafluoroethylene resin dispersed therein into a reinforced substrate comprising a woven fabric formed by using a ply yarn as the warp and the weft, said ply yarn being made by doubling at least a single-twist yarn made from a fluororesin fibre and a single-twist yarn made from a polyphenylene sulfide, and twisting in the direction opposite to the single twist of the yarn. The multilayer sliding member is equipped with the sliding surface material at least on the sliding surface and has a cylindrical or planar overall shape.
