Abstract:
A sliding-type constant velocity universal joint is provided with a cup-shaped outer joint member 11 and an inner joint member which transmits torque between the inner joint member and the outer joint member 11 through balls 13 while allowing angular displacement, and an inside part which includes the balls 13 and the inner joint member is accommodated within the outer joint member 11 so as to be axially slidable. The sliding-type constant velocity universal joint is also provided with a retention mechanism 25 configured such that an annular groove 23 is formed in the inner peripheral surface of the opening end section 22 of the outer joint member 11 and the balls 13 are caused to interfere with a circlip 24 fitted in the annular groove 23, thereby restricting the amount of axial displacement of the inside part. The annular groove 23 of the retention mechanism 25 has formed thereon a circular conical surface 27 tilted relative to the axial direction so as to form a wedge angle θ between the circular conical surface 27 and the axial line L1 tangent at the point α of contact between a ball 13 and the circlip 24, the wedge angle θ expanding inward from the opening end section 22 of the outer joint member 11.
