Nowadays, the"cake"resulting from the Sewage Treatment Stations (ETE) constitutes a great universal problem, as the very poor workability of the"tiles" resulting from the filter-compressing definitely prevents their processing, disposal and compacting in specifically built for this purpose industrial residue storehouses. And adding the fact that-as a general rule-this sludge has heavy metals that exceed the content allowed by the law for their use as organic fertilizers and other industrial purposes, the sludge from ETEs constitutes a problem difficult to solve. The purpose of this invention is to correct the above mentioned inconveniences by providing an industrial process developed for correction of sludge resulting from the ETE sanitation sewage treatment and other industrial organic residues, by physically conditioning these materials, that is, rendering them workable (enabling their easy processing, disposal and compacting) and adapting the heavy metal contents to the levels present in the existent international law, giving ground for their meeting the rating of the materials that may be used as organic fertilizers and other industrial utilizations.
The invention shall be described on the basis of the attached figure representing the process flowchart.
The"cake"resulting from the process of the sanitation sewage treatment (and other materials containing organic materials and/or heavy metals) is combined with suitable quantities of calcium and magnesium silicoaluminate, therefore with the great specific area of diatomite covered with montmorillonite, the mineral having great hydrophilous capacity that reduces the water, free in the radical way, rendering the material workable and allowing its handling, stacking and compacting. Should the heavy metals exist, they will be absorbed by cationic exchange with cations from other elements, especially hydrogen. The concentration of the conditioner (calcium and magnesium silicoaluminate) shall be established for each case, based on the quantity of heavy metals and degree of moisture (quantity of free water) present.
A number of tests have been performed with the sludge derived from Barueri Sewage Treatment Station ("SABESP" [Basic Sanitation of the State of Sao Paulo]) and the results showed enormous advantage as compared to other attempts at conditioning, rendering easy transportation like any earthy material, storage and compacting.
In the events where heavy metals were present, they were"captured"and encapsulated in the process of cationic exchange, thus conditioning the material in different levels of the use of conditioning material based on the organic material content and heavy metals contained. So, different variations are, obviously, possible as well as the modification of this invention in the light of the obtained knowledge.
Therefore, it is necessary to understand that, to the extent of the attached claim, the invention may be used in a different from the specifically described way.
