Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: a slurry which is excellent in terms of dispersibility and dispersion stability and is suitable especially for secondary-battery separators; and a separator for batteries which are safe even when separator thickness reductions proceed. [Solution] A slurry which comprises alumina particles, a binder, and a medium, wherein the alumina particles, when examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), show an absorption peak at around 3,475 cm-1, the peak disappearing at 300ºC and higher. When the alumina particles are heated from room temperature to 1,000ºC and the gases evolved by the heating are analyzed by mass spectrometry (TPD-MS), then the amount of evolved water is 2,000 wt ppm or less. The alumina particles have a Mohs hardness of 6 or greater.
