Abstract:
From among the drive mechanism of a conventional bicycle, the crankset (formed from a crank, a shaft, and a chainring), which constitutes the driving member, has the same structure and action as the wheel and axle in the field of mechanics. However, the structure comprising a rear hub, an axle, and a rear wheel, which constitute the driven member, has the same structure as the wheel and axle but the action and effect thereof are the opposite of the action and effect of the wheel and axle. In order for the mechanical action and effect of the wheel and axle to work, the radius R of the large wheel must always be larger than the radius r of the small wheel. However, in the drive mechanism of the rear wheel of a conventional bicycle, the radius r (radius of the rear wheel) is considerably larger than the radius R (radius of the small gear). This configuration contradicts the action and effect of the wheel and axle. The present invention is characterized by a structure in which the crank of a conventional bicycle is removed, the radius of the chainring (large gear) is increased to the maximum degree that does not hinder travel of the bicycle, and the pedals are attached to the circumferential region of the enlarged chainring, which as a result provides a moment of force to the circumference of the chainring. In conjunction therewith, it is possible to increase the radius of the small gear constituting the driven member in proportion to the increase of the radius of the chainring (large gear). Furthermore, in contrast to the centric rotation of the chainring (large gear) of a conventional bicycle, the chainring of the present invention rotates eccentrically. In addition, this eccentrically rotating chainring is mounted to the drive mechanism of the bicycle, and the drive mechanism is installed on both the left and right sides of the bicycle.
