Description:
SMART FACIAL HAIR GROOMING DEVICE

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of grooming devices, and more specifically, to an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled smart facial hair grooming device designed to groom, design, or shave facial hair automatically.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

[0003] Facial hair is a secondary sex characteristic of males, referring to the growth of hair on or around chin, jowls and philtrum. Male pogonotrophy (growing of facial hair) is often culturally associated with wisdom and virility. Men style their facial hair into beards, moustaches, goatees or sideburns while others shave off their facial hair completely. Those who enjoy having facial hair often spend a great deal of time and money styling the hair into intricate designs and patterns. Because facial hair grows out quickly, it can be expensive and time-consuming to keep their facial hair cut in these patterns by professionals, and it may be too difficult to maintain the patterns without professional assistance. Therefore, a need exists for a specially designed machine to do the work quickly and automatically.

[0004] Now-a-days, a large segment of population include people who are crippled, elderly, or incapacitated who cannot efficiently use grooming devices because of their cumbersome functioning and inefficient performance. Hence, there arises a need to provide for a safe and easy to operate grooming device that can automatically groom, design or shave facial hair of people who are crippled, elderly, or incapacitated, and can further create various facial hair styles for such people in a short time interval.

[0005] Till date many automatic grooming devices have been developed that provide automatic grooming to shave or design facial hair by providing a plurality of blades that move, rotate or oscillate by the action of a motor or any such rotary or oscillatory means controlled by a controller or an Integrated Chip (IC). However, such automatic grooming devices do not provide operability with either a mobile device or a host computer, wherein operations of the grooming devices can be controlled by the mobile device or the host computer. Thus, an improvement in the art of such automatic grooming devices is required that can improve ease of operability of such devices.

[0006] While various hair grooming devices have been developed which provide the convenience of designing, grooming and shaving of facial hair, none of such devices have been accepted or have been successful in the hair styling profession since they are cumbersome to manipulate and do not adequately perform their desired functions.

[0007] There is therefore a need in the art of grooming devices that can provide the convenience of designing, grooming and shaving of facial hair, and can create various facial hair styles for men in a short time interval. Additionally, there exists a need to provide for an Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled grooming device that performs various grooming operations automatically by evaluating facial contours and shapes, and eliminates deficiencies of known grooming devices.

[0008] As used in the description herein and throughout the claims that follow, the meaning of "a," "an," and "the" includes plural reference unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Also, as used in the description herein, the meaning of "in" includes "in" and "on" unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.

[0009] In some embodiments, the numerical parameters set forth in the written description and attached claims are approximations that can vary depending upon the desired properties sought to be obtained by a particular embodiment. In some embodiments, the numerical parameters should be construed in light of the number of reported significant digits and by applying ordinary rounding techniques. Notwithstanding that the numerical ranges and parameters setting forth the broad scope of some embodiments of the invention are approximations, the numerical values set forth in the specific examples are reported as precisely as practicable. The numerical values presented in some embodiments of the invention may contain certain errors necessarily resulting from the standard deviation found in their respective testing measurements.

[0010] The recitation of ranges of values herein is merely intended to serve as a shorthand method of referring individually to each separate value falling within the range. Unless otherwise indicated herein, each individual value is incorporated into the specification as if it were individually recited herein. All methods described herein can be performed in any suitable order unless otherwise indicated herein or otherwise clearly contradicted by context. The use of any and all examples, or exemplary language (e.g. "such as") provided with respect to certain embodiments herein is intended merely to better illuminate the invention and does not pose a limitation on the scope of the invention otherwise claimed. No language in the specification should be construed as indicating any non-claimed element essential to the practice of the invention.

[0011] Groupings of alternative elements or embodiments of the invention disclosed herein are not to be construed as limitations. Each group member can be referred to and claimed individually or in any combination with other members of the group or other elements found herein. One or more members of a group can be included in, or deleted from, a group for reasons of convenience and/or patentability. When any such inclusion or deletion occurs, the specification is herein deemed to contain the group as modified thus fulfilling the written description of all groups used in the appended claims.

The PI module can calculate movement points for the plurality of razors 108 to target, to enable pixel perfect movement of the plurality of razors 108, and the PI module detects facial hair shape, contours and hair pattern using AI algorithms and provides corresponding commands to the micro-controller to control movement of the plurality of razors 108.

[0070] In an aspect, to enable the unshaved beard 500 to be shaved as per the desired facial hair style chosen by the user, the user can put the grooming device 100 over his head and can adjust the adjusting knob 106 to enable tight fitting of the device 100 on head of the user. Thereafter, the user can either access the touch screen cum display screen 110 or can user a computing device such as a mobile device, tablet, a laptop, a desktop and the like to enable grooming, designing or shaving operation of the device 100.

[0071] In an aspect, a micro-controller can then use information provided by any or a combination of one or more sensors, imaging devices, motion sensors and ultrasonic sensors to detect presence of hair within the face shield 102, and can enable precise movement of the plurality of razors 108 to allow cutting of facial hair within the face shield 102.

[0072] FIG. 6 illustrates an exemplary representation of a computing device configured to control the proposed grooming device in accordance to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an aspect, a computing device 600 such as a tablet and the like can be configured to control the device 100. The computing device 600 can be installed with an application that can provide the user with a selection menu that includes various facial hair styles to select a desired facial hair style from the selection menu, and can further provide execution of grooming, designing or shaving operation of the device 100.

[0073] In an aspect, the computing device 600 can show the user a visualization of the desired facial hair style on face of the user, and upon confirmation by the user, the computing device can trigger the corresponding grooming, designing or shaving operation.

[0074] In an aspect, the computing device 600 can be connected to the device 100 via a wired connection by using the USB port 302 of the device 100 or via a wireless network such as Wifi, Bluetooth and the like.

[0075] In an aspect, the plurality of razors 108 can be covered with a metal mesh that can make it safe for people with pimples or saggy skin to use the grooming device 100. In another aspect, the at least one micro-controller can be configured such that it stops movement of the plurality of razors 108 in case when the grooming device 100 is shaking or is abruptly removed from head of the user or if face shield 102 is in expanded state 450. Further, movement of the plurality of razors 108 can continue once the grooming device 100 is operatively coupled with the head of the user and the ON/OFF switch 302 is pressed, after which a re-scan of facial contour and facial hair pattern of the user is carried out by the PI module, and remaining operation of the grooming device 100 can be accordingly completed.

[0076] In an aspect, in case of an electrical or mechanical malfunction, LED light 310 of the grooming device 100 can enable repeatedly blinking of a red light denoting that operation of the grooming device 100 is halted. The blinking of red light can stop once the malfunction is rectified and the grooming device 100 can continue its operation thereafter.
