Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a snow cover depth gauge and snow cover depth measurement method that make it possible to reduce erroneous measurement of snow cover depth that results from snow accumulating on the surface of a pipe housing and melted snow on the surface of the pipe housing, and accurately measure snow cover depth by means of a simple configuration. [Solution] A snow cover depth gauge 1 is equipped with multiple optical sensors 7a to 7g (a first sensor for measuring illumination intensity based on the reflection strength of reflected light that is radiated and reflected in a horizontal direction, and a second sensor for measuring the peripheral illumination intensity around the first sensor) provided to a hollow portion 3c of a hollow cylindrical pipe 3, whereby measurement realizing complementary functions from the first sensor and the second sensor is possible. In measurement of the snow cover depth, determination conditions for detecting the snow cover surface are set, in a timely manner, on the basis of a plurality of items of illumination intensity data obtained from the sensors. The first sensor and the second sensor form a pair, a plurality of said pairs being provided in the vertical direction or horizontal direction.
