Title:
SOIL MONITORING SYSTEM
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/108214
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A soil monitoring system (40) is provided that includes a sensing shank (42), and a first sensor (50) coupled to a leading edge of the sensing shank (42). The first sensor (50) is configured to output first signals indicative of a pressure exerted on the first sensor (50) by soil (18) as the sensing shank (42) is driven through the soil along a direction of travel (30). The soil monitoring system also includes a frame (20) forming a channel (64) oriented in a substantially vertical direction relative to a surface of the soil (18), and a carrier (60) coupled to the sensing shank (42) and disposed within the channel (64). The soil monitoring system (40) further includes an actuator (88) extending between the frame (20) and the carrier (60). The actuator (88) is configured to linearly drive the carrier (60) in a reciprocating motion to vary a penetration depth of the sensing shank (42) within the soil.
