Abstract:
The invention provides a sol composition comprising an oil and an organomodified
clay mineral contained in the oil which mineral has a flaky particle structure
having a mean thickness of 0.1μm or below and a mean length of 0.5 to 50μm;
oil-base gel compositions; and W/O emulsion compositions. The organo- modified
clay mineral in a state transformed into the flakey particles from aggregates
exerts excellent oil-thickening and -gelling effect when used simultaneously
with a nonionic surfactant. Further, the organomodified clay mineral having
a flaky particle structure is also excellent in the emulsion stabilizing effect
on W/O emulsions, which makes it possible to reduce the amounts of the organomodified
clay mineral and nonionic surfactant used and thereby provide low-viscosity
and stable W/O emulsions. Furthermore, the use of an oil having COOH/OH groups
makes it possible to form an emulsion composition which is lowered in the viscosity
while keeping the emulsion stability, thus giving emulsions which have low viscosity
and excellent emulsion stability and are extremely excellent in feelings in
use such as spreadability and freshness.
