[Problem] To provide a solar cell element and a solar cell module in which output characteristics are enhanced. [Solution] This solar cell element is provided with: a first-conductivity-type semiconductor substrate (1) having a first surface (1F) and a second surface (1S) on the reverse side of the first surface; a second-conductivity-type semiconductor layer (2) having a first layer (2a) positioned on the first surface (1F), and a second layer (2b) positioned on the second surface (1S), the second layer being in continuation with the first layer by penetrating through, or via the side surface of, the semiconductor substrate; a first electrode (4) having a main electrode part (4a) positioned on the first layer (2a), and a first output extraction part (4c) positioned on the second layer (2b), the first output extraction part being electrically connected with the main electrode part by penetrating through, or via the side surface of, the semiconductor substrate; and a second electrode (5) positioned at a portion of the second surface at which the second layer (2b) is not present. In the solar cell element, the sheet resistance of the second layer (2b) is greater than the sheet resistance of the first layer (2a).
