A solar cell system is provided with two-dimensionally arranged solar cell modules and a base which supports the solar cell modules. Each of the solar cell modules has: a rectangular solar cell panel; and holding members which, when viewed in the direction perpendicular to the main surface of the solar cell panel, extend from the inner side of the solar cell panel in the direction parallel to the long sides of the solar cell panel toward both the short sides thereof and support the solar cell panel. The base has bar-like members each having attached thereto, through the holding members, a row of short sides of solar cell panels arranged in such a manner that the short sides of adjacent solar cell panels are aligned with each other. The holding members are adhered to the rear surface of the solar cell panel. The length of the long sides of the solar cell panels is 1.3 m or greater, and the length of the short sides of the solar cell panels is 0.9 m or greater. The solar cell panels have glass substrates having an overall thickness of 2.5 mm or less.
