Title:
SOLAR COOLING UNIT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/174409
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
Solar cooling unit for small-scale air condition applications, and generally for cooling applications, in which a separation means for separating the absorbent and refrigerant of the working solution is specifically designed to operate according to two (or three) different operating conditions of the cooling unit. To that end the separation means forms a separator (2) including protection means (14, 15) against splashes and droplets of working solution, to prevent them from reaching a condenser (4) of the solar cooling unit, and further including a backup energy source (13) usable to heat up the working solution inside the separator (2) at least when solar radiation is absent, and a bypass inlet (16) to bypass the solar panels (1) of the cooling unit. The solar cooling unit also has a compact design and increased performance due to the specific configuration of the absorber and the evaporator. To that end, the absorber (5) has an absorber working fluid inlet distributor (21) with falling film distributors (24) inside the absorber tubes (25), to increase the absorption efficiency.
