Abstract:
A solid catalyst with which liquid-phase methanol can be synthesized from carbon monoxide and hydrogen under pressure in a solution in, e.g., methanol without the need of separating and recirculating the liquid-phase methanol. The solid catalyst comprises a combination of: an ion-exchange resin which has undergone anion exchange so as to be in an alkoxide form; and a transition metal of the Raney type, powdery type, supported type, etc. It is used for synthesizing methanol from carbon monoxide and hydrogen in a solution in, e.g., methanol.
