Disclosed is a solid oxide fuel cell having high gas barrier properties from which a fuel battery cell can be easily taken away. Also disclosed is a method for sealing such a solid oxide fuel cell. Sealing with a noncombustible gas is employed for sealing the space between an air region (10) and a fuel region (11) in a portion for fixing a fuel battery cell used in a solid oxide fuel cell. The sealing is obtained by a gas pipe (7) for sealing, a sealing region (8) and a noncombustible gas supply port (9) for supplying the noncombustible gas into the sealing region. The gas pressure in the sealing region is set slightly higher than the gas pressures in the air region and the fuel region.
