Abstract:
In the present invention, a solid state illumination device has a light source, a light guide, and a light emitter. The light source has a semiconductor laser and a drive circuit for controlling the semiconductor laser, and emits a plurality of laser-light beams in the blue-violet to blue color wavelength range. The light guide has a plurality of light guiding paths that respectively guide the plurality of laser-light beams. The light emitter has a thermal conductor having a first surface, a wavelength conversion layer provided on a central portion of the first surface, and an optical unit having a top surface, a lateral surface, and a bottom surface, where at least a portion of the bottom surface of the optical unit comes into contact with the first surface. In the light emitter, one end of each of the plurality of light guide paths is, as seen from above, disposed outside of the central portion, and a plurality of laser-light beams that are incident on the optical unit by way of the ends radiate the wavelength conversion layer after being guided. Wavelength converted light emitted from the wavelength conversion layer that absorbed the plurality of laser light beams, and scattered light generated due to the conversion of the plurality of laser light beams within the light emitter are emitted from the top surface of the optical unit.
