Abstract:
Provided is a solid state image capture element, etc., that is capable of downsampling and compositing pixels horizontally without reading out signal charges of irrelevant pixels, such as when taking videos. A plurality of photoelectric conversion units (21), a specified vertical transfer unit (23b), a corresponding vertical transfer unit (23a), a memory unit (63), and a horizontal transfer unit (61) are disposed upon a solid state image capture element (1). Different drive pulses are supplied via first and second drive pulse circuits (33) to the specified and corresponding vertical transfer units, and the signal charges of photoelectric conversion units in the row thereof that are to be read out are read out, and the signal charges of photoelectric conversion units that are to be excluded by downsampling are not read out. The signal charges that are thus read out are composited and transferred within the horizontal transfer unit (61) by the control of the timing of the charge transmission by the memory unit.
