Abstract:
The objective is to reduce the size of a CMOS-type imaging device having a global shutter function. Therefore, in this imaging device a photoelectric conversion unit generates an electrical charge in accordance with an exposure amount for a prescribed exposure period. A generated charge retention unit is formed in a prescribed impurity concentration on a semiconductor substrate, and retains the electrical charge. A generated charge transfer unit enables current to flow between the photoelectric conversion unit and the generated charge retention unit after the exposure period has elapsed, thereby transferring the electrical charge from the photoelectric conversion unit to the generated charge retention unit. An output charge retention unit is formed in substantially the same impurity concentration as the generated charge retention unit, and retains the electrical charge. A retained charge distribution unit enables current to flow between the generated charge retention unit and the output charge retention unit, thereby uniformly distributing the electrical charge retained in the generated charge retention unit to the generated charge retention unit and the output charge retention unit. A signal generation unit generates, as an image signal, a signal in accordance with the electrical charge retained in the output charge retention unit after the distribution by the retained charge distribution unit.
