The present invention relates to a solvent which, as compared with conventional solvents, enables effective cleaning while using a reduced amount of water or a composition for cleaning, to a composition for cleaning including the solvent, and to a cleaning apparatus. Provided is the solvent of the present invention, which can be expressed as chemical formula 1 below, and which may exhibit superior effects of removing both oily and aqueous contamination. The solvent of the present invention not only enables effective cleaning using a small amount thereof and shortens an entire cleaning process to achieve improved efficiency, but also effectively prevents the deformation of fibers and clothes caused by alkali, water, and physical force, and provides safer and more advantageous effects to the human body and the environment.
