Abstract:
Provided is a sonar in which it is possible to widen the specific bandwidth of ultrasonic waves without involving an increase in size of an ultrasonic transducer. The sonar according to the present invention has: an ultrasonic transducer 41 for transmitting/receiving ultrasonic waves; and a mechanism for tilting and rotating a central axis O1 of the ultrasonic transducer 41. The ultrasonic transducer 41 is provided with: a substrate 42 which also serves as an acoustic matching layer; and a piezoelectric element 43 made of a plate-shaped ceramic material. The piezoelectric element 43 comprises a plurality of columnar parts 57 that are divided so as to extend in the thickness direction, and also has a front face 51 bonded to the substrate 42 and a rear face 52 disposed on the side opposite thereto. The respective columnar parts 57 are connected to each other at the respective ends thereof on the side of the front face 51 of the piezoelectric element 43.
