Abstract:
A sound absorbing material (3) mounted to a vehicle exterior component (1) has an intermediate layer (4) that is a planar fibrous web (7) in which thermoplastic synthetic fibers are included and interlaced, and an outer layer (5) in which planar non-woven fabric (8) including thermoplastic synthetic fibers is layered on at least one surface of the intermediate layer (4). The sound absorbing material (3) has a peripheral part (11), flattened parts (14), and sound absorbing parts (15b). The peripheral part (11) is thermocompressed such that the layered intermediate layer 4 and the outer layer 5 are compressed in the thickness direction along the periphery. The flattened parts (14) are provided, at intervals (L), in at least partial regions which are located inside the peripheral part in a plane formed from the intermediate layer (4) and the outer layer (5), and are thermocompressed in a state where the intermediate layer (4) and the outer layer (5) are compressed in the thickness direction. The sound absorbing parts (15b) are formed such that the intermediate layer (4) and the outer layer (5) are layered in a state where the fibrous web (7) is compressed to be thinner than the natural thickness due to the flattened parts (14).
