Description:
SOUND ATTENUATING ARTICUE

TECHNICAE FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the field of soundproof enclosures. More particularly, the present disclosure relates to a sound-attenuating article for changing a normal room into a soundproof room.

BACKGROUND

[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

[0003] Conventionally, in the automotive industry, there is a requirement for dedicated rooms for performing certain tasks. One of the examples of such a room includes a soundproof room, which is required to perform various noise tests on different components, to meet necessary government regulations, and to reduce overall noise in the vehicle. Such rooms are specially made for the discussed purpose. Also, once such rooms are made, they are not supposed to be used for other activities (e.g. noisy activities) as they may affect the sound dampening properties. This limitation adds to the overall infrastructure cost of the industry in terms of money spent on creating different rooms for different purposes and associated real estate as well.

[0004] There is, therefore, a need for a method for making a dual-purpose room that can be used as a normal room and a soundproof room.

It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that embodiments of the present invention may be practiced without some of these specific details.

[0027] The present disclosure relates to the field of soundproof enclosures. More particularly the present disclosure relates to a sound-attenuating article for changing a normal room into a soundproof room.

[0028] The present disclosure elaborates upon an article for attenuating sound. The article includes a first surface, a second surface opposite to the first surface, a first pair of opposing ends, and a second pair of opposing ends. The first pair of opposing ends and the second pair of opposing ends are normal to the first surface and the second surface, and the slab is made of rockwool bonded with resin.

[0029] In an embodiment, a density of the article can be 96kg/m3.

[0030] In an embodiment, a thickness of the article can be 50mm.

[0031] In an embodiment, the article can be configured to be removably fixed, through any of the first surface and the second surface, with an inner surface of walls of an enclosure to make the enclosure soundproof.

[0032] In an embodiment, the article when removably fixed with the inner surface of the walls, are supported, from below, by a wooden base.

[0033] In an embodiment, the article can be configured to be fixed with the inner surface of the walls through any or combination of an adhesive, velcro, hook, and latch.

[0034] In an embodiment, the article can comprise an attaching element being configured to removably attach with a corresponding attaching element of another article for removably attaching them together.

[0035] In an embodiment, the attaching element can comprise any or combination of a velcro, adhesive, hook, and latch.

[0036] FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary representation of an article for attenuating sound, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0037] FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary representation of implementing the article with walls of a room, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0038] FIG. 3 illustrates a comparison of thermal conductivity of the rockwool resin bonded material having different densities, with an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0039] As illustrated, an article 100 for attenuating sound can include a first surface 102, a second surface 104 opposite to the first surface, a first pair of opposing ends 106-1, 106-2, and a second pair of opposing ends 108-1, 108-2. In an embodiment, the article can be made of rockwool resin bonded material. The first pair of opposing ends 106-1, 106-2 and the second pair of opposing ends 108-1, 108-2 can be normal to the first surface 102 and the second surface 104. The density of the article 100 can be 96kg/m3 and a thickness of the slab can be 50mm. Fig. 3 shows a comparison of the thermal conductivity of the rockwool resin bonded material having different densities. The article can include an attaching element (not shown) at any of the first opposing ends 106-1, 106-2 and the second opposing end 108-1, 108-2. The attaching element allows for removably attaching a plurality of articles to each other. In an embodiment, the attaching element can comprise any or combination of velcro, adhesive, hook, and latch. [0040] In an embodiment, the article can be configured to be removably fixed, through any of the first surface and the second surface, on an inner surface of walls (see FIG.

2) of an enclosure to make the enclosure soundproof. The article can be fixed on the inner surface of the wall such that the complete inner surface is covered with the article. The enclosure can include but without limiting to a room, or a climatic chamber. The climatic chamber can be referred to as a room with controllable temperature, and humidity. A wooden base 110 can be placed on the floor of the enclosure and the article 100, supported by the wooden base, can be fixed on the inner surface of the walls of the enclosure. ArticlelOO can be configured to be fixed with the inner surface of the walls through any or combination of an adhesive, velcro, hook, and latch thus, easy to implement and use.

[0041] In an exemplary embodiment, the article is tested in a room having an internal Q volume of 8m . A plurality of articles was fixed on the inner surface of walls of a room and the plurality of articles was supported by a wooden base kept on a floor of the room. Table: 1 shows the value of random incidence sound absorption coefficient (RISC), at one third octave frequency, in the room fixed with the proposed article having thickness 100mm:

Table: 1

Noise reduction coefficient (NRC) is given by the average value of sound absorption coefficient at 250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, and 2000Hz. The value of NRC based on the above experimental is 1.04. Table: 2, shows, at different time instants, different noise values outside the room and inside the room (with the absence of the proposed article being fixed with the walls):

Table: 2 Table: 3, shows, at different time instants, different noise values inside the room with absence of the proposed article being fixed with the walls) andinside the room and with the proposed article being fixed with the walls:

Table: 3

It can be seen from table 3 that there is a total noise reduction of around 6dBA in the sound attenuating room having the proposed article fixed on the walls of the room.

[0042] The present disclosure pertains to an article that can be used to convert a simple room into a soundproof room that can be further used for a number of applications such as for noise testing of automotive parts. This omits the need for a dedicated room for noise testing thus, lowering the cost. The proposed article is very easy to transport since it is not very heavy and allows changing a normal room into a soundproof room for various applications and vice versa, on a need base. [0043] Moreover, in interpreting the specification, all terms should be interpreted in the broadest possible manner consistent with the context. In particular, the terms “comprises” and “comprising” should be interpreted as referring to elements, components, or steps in a non-exclusive manner, indicating that the referenced elements, components, or steps may be present, or utilized, or combined with other elements, components, or steps that are not expressly referenced. Where the specification claims refer to at least one of something selected from the group consisting of A, B, C ....and N, the text should be interpreted as requiring only one element from the group, not A plus N, or B plus N, etc. [0044] While the foregoing describes various embodiments of the invention, other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof. The scope of the invention is determined by the claims that follow. The invention is not limited to the described embodiments, versions or examples, which are included to enable a person having ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention when combined with information and knowledge available to the person having ordinary skill in the art.
