Abstract:
Provided are a sound output device and a sound output method such that while curbing the cost as far as possible, the driving sound of a vehicle can be effectively emitted to persons present in the lateral direction of a vehicle. The sound output device is configured in such a way that there is provided a reinforcing member mounted at a predetermined position in a vehicle, and that a sound is emitted to the outside of the vehicle via the reinforcing member. There is provided an output section which outputs an audio signal which evokes a sound of a vehicle. A speaker which receives said signal from the output section and emits said sound, is mounted on the reinforcing member. The reinforcing member comprises a propagation path which extends in the width direction of the vehicle, and propagates, in the air, the sound emitted by the speaker; and a first opening which is an aperture formed at least at either the left or right end of the propagation path, and serves to output, to the outside of the vehicle, the sound propagated along the propagation path.
