Title:
SPARK IGNITION FOUR-STROKE ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2013/098905
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
[Problem] To make it possible to both purge and scavenge exhaust gas in a gasoline engine having an auxiliary cylinder provided to the outer side of a main cylinder. [Solution] A first exhaust poppet valve (9) is installed in a combustion chamber (3) on the outer side of a main cylinder (1). A valve cover (7) covers the bottom surface of the exhaust poppet valve (9). A third intake poppet valve (10) is installed between the exhaust poppet valve (9) and a second intake poppet valve (11). At top dead center during the exhaust stroke, the exhaust poppet valve (9) and the second intake poppet valve (11) are both slightly open. The third intake poppet valve (10) is closed at top dead center during the exhaust stroke. When the second intake poppet valve (11) opens, intake air flows in against the bottom surface of the closed third intake poppet valve (10), and combusted gas in the combustion chamber moves toward the exhaust poppet valve (9). The exhaust poppet valve (9) is not closed at this time. Therefore, the gas can be scavenged. However, a period of time in which the first exhaust poppet valve (9) and the second intake poppet valve (11) overlap is set so that intake air is not washed out of the first exhaust poppet valve. A three-way catalyst function and scavenging are then both achieved.
