Provided is a spark ignition internal combustion engine 100 which is provided with a housing 1, an output shaft 2, an annular cylinder 12, a rotor 21, and a partition wall disc 3 and which burns a mixed gas of fuel and air within the annular cylinder 12. The rotor 21 has a piston section 23 disposed within the annular cylinder 12 and movable within the annular cylinder 12 in the circumferential direction of the output shaft 2 while being in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the annular cylinder 12. The partition wall disc 3 has: a partition wall section 33 which, when the partition wall section 33 moves across the annular cylinder 12, forms within the annular cylinder 12 a part of a combustion chamber 121 in cooperation with the piston section 23, the combustion chamber 121 being that within which the mixed gas is burned; and a cutout section 34 which allows the piston section 23 to pass therethrough when the piston section 23 has been moved within the annular cylinder 12 to a predetermined angular position by the pressure of combustion gas generated when the mixed gas is burned within the combustion chamber 121.
