Abstract:
Provided is a spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which a raised portion (31) having an intake-side inclined surface (34) and an exhaust-side inclined surface (35) is provided to the top face (10) of the piston (5), and a cavity (40) is provided on the raised portion (31) in a position that corresponds to the spark plug, wherein the intake-side inclined surface (34) and the exhaust-side inclined surface (35) are formed such that, in a cross-section following the center axis of the piston (5) and orthogonal to the axial direction of the crankshaft, the ratio (L2/L1) of the length (L2) of the exhaust-side inclined surface (35) to the length (L1) of the intake-side inclined surface (34) is at least 1.25.
