Abstract:
A spark plug (1) has: a center electrode (3) held by an insulator (2); a ground electrode (4) provided to a housing (H) that holds the insulator, the ground electrode (4) being disposed facing the center electrode; and a composite chip (5) formed on the center electrode and/or the ground electrode. In the composite chip, a core part (51), in which a sill part (511) is formed integrally with an electrode base material, is constituted from a Ni alloy material, and a surface layer part (52), which has a discharge part (521) that covers a projecting end face (512) of the surface layer part and a side surface coating part (522) that covers a side surface (513), is constituted from a Pt alloy material, the coating thickness S of the side surface coating part in the radial direction (Y), the outer diameter D1 of the discharge part, and the coating length L1 of the side surface coating part in the axial direction (X) satisfying the relationship S ≥ D1/20 + L1/10 – 0.005 mm.
