The purpose of the present invention is to shorten the production time of spark plugs. This spark plug production method comprises: (a) the step of assembling a main metal body and an insulator, in such a manner that the main metal body covers the outer peripheral surface on the forward extremity side of the insulator, to obtain an assembly; (b) the step of inserting a portion on the forward extremity side of the assembly, from an opening of a pressure container, into the pressure container; (c) the step of bringing the insulation member, in a state wherein the axis line of the assembly is aligned with the axis line of the opening, into tight contact shaped as a torus with the outer peripheral surface on the base extremity side of the insulator, and pushing the assembly in order to plug the opening with the assembly; and (d) the step of pressurizing the interior of the pressure container and applying a predetermined voltage between the terminal electrode and the main metal body. The step (b) comprises the step of inserting the portion of the forward extremity side of the assembly into the pressure container in such a manner as to dispose inside the pressure container a gap formed between the outer peripheral surface of the insulator and the inner peripheral surface of the main metal body on the forward extremity side of the assembly.
