A speaker having a damper capable of ensuring high linearity characteristics. The speaker comprises a vibrator including a damper and a voice coil bobbin (bobbin), and a magnetic circuit including a plate. The damper comprises a first member disposed oppositely to the plate, and a second member projecting from the first member toward the plate side. The first member has a movable portion for supporting the bobbin resiliently. The movable portion has a planar shape and can move with a folded portion provided between the movable portion and the second member as a basic point when the bobbin moves in the sound emission direction or in the direction reverse to that direction. Displacement of the damper from a position of rest can be substantially equalized when the damper is moved either in the sound emission direction or in the direction reverse to that direction by imparting a predetermined force to the damper through the voice coil, where high linearity characteristics can be attained.
