A speed governor (30) of an elevator in which a governor rope (6) is wrapped around governor sheaves. The governor (30) comprises a base (1), the governor sheave (2) installed in the base (1) through a rotating shaft (3) and rotating according to the operation of the governor rope (6) wrapped therearound, a flyweight (8) installed on one side face of the governor sheave (2) and having a rotatable working claw (13), and a ratchet (12) rotatably formed on the rotating shaft (3) and engageable with the working claw (13) of the flyweight (8). An inspection lever (42) is fitted to the base (1) rotatably through a rotating pin (41) on the outside of the working claw (13), and a wire (43) rotating the inspection lever (42) is connected to the inspection lever (42). When the wire (43) is pulled, the inspection lever (42) is rotated to press the working claw (13) so as to engage the working claw (13) with the ratchet (12).
