Abstract:
This speed reducer is provided with: a rotating member rotatable about a rotation axis and having a major radius and a minor radius when viewed in the direction of the rotation axis; an external gear having a plurality of circumferentially arranged external teeth; and an annular internal gear having a plurality of circumferentially arranged internal teeth surrounding the rotation axis. The external gear further has a cylinder section having a cylindrical shape which surrounds the rotation axis, and deformable radially. The radially outer side surface of the rotating member is in direct and slidable contact with the inner side surface of the cylinder section, which is the radially inner side surface of the cylinder section. The plurality of external teeth are provided on the radially outer side surface of the cylinder section. The plurality of internal teeth are provided on the radially inner side surface of the internal gear. In the direction of the major radius of the rotating member, the external teeth of the external gear mesh with the internal teeth of the internal gear.
