Abstract:
1. The invention relates to spherical magnetisable polyvinyl alcohol microparticles having a particle size distribution in the range from 0.5 to 3 μm, to a method for the production thereof, and use thereof in particular for diagnostic purposes. 2. Spherical magnetisable polyvinyl alcohol microparticles produced according to known methods have a size distribution which is too broad, which is disadvantageous for various reasons. However, particles having a narrow size distribution cannot be produced on a larger scale by known production methods. 3. The method enables the production of spherical magnetisable polyvinyl alcohol microparticles having a particle size distribution in the range from 0.5 to 3 μm. The method comprises the following steps: Dispersing a nanoparticulate magnetisable material in an aqueous phase which contains polyvinyl alcohol in dissolved form; addition of the aqueous phase to an organic phase which is not miscible with the aqueous phase and contains at least one emulsifier; and generating an emulsion by stirring at a temperature of 25 °C or higher; addition of at least one water-soluble cross-linking substance under continued stirring.
