Abstract:

In a spindle unit for a machine tool, intended to improve the quality of the surface machined and to increase the endurance of the cutting element, a mechanism (10) for regulating the pre-loading of the thrust bearings (7 and 9) comprises two coaxially located bushings (24 and 27), sections (25 and 26) of the external surface of the embraced bushing (24) and sections (28 and 29) of the internal surface of the embracing bushing (27) being of a conical form, and rollers (30) located between the conical sections (25 and 28, 26 and 29) of the bushings (24 and 27), the bushing (24) being mounted on the spindle (4) movably and the bushing (27) being rigidly fixed in a casing (1). The coning angle (alpha) on the front thrust bearing (7) side of the bushing (27) is smaller than the coning angle (beta) of the bushing (24), whereas the coning angle (beta1) of the bushing (27) on the rear thrust bearing (9) side is larger than the coning angle (alpha1) of the bushing (24).
