Abstract:
Disclosed is a low-cost, highly safe spinel lithium manganate which can be a positive electrode active material having excellent energy density and battery characteristics. Also disclosed are a method for producing such a spinel lithium manganate, and a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having a positive electrode containing the spinel lithium manganate. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing a spinel lithium manganate which is characterized in that a spinel lithium manganate having an average particle diameter of 10-500 nm, a BET value of 1-50 m2/g and a particle size variation coefficient of not more than 0.40, a manganesesalt, an alkali carbonate and an alkali hydroxide are mixed under aqueous conditions; the thus-obtained aqueous solution is brought into contact with an oxygen-containing gas, thereby obtaining a manganese oxide particle; and then the manganese oxide particle is mixed with a lithium source and fired.
