Title:
SPIRAL-SHAFT SCREW AND MULTI-SEGMENT DISPLACEMENT-ANGLE RUDDER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2002/090180
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A spiral-shaft propulsion unit having a spiral shaft formed in a single spiral or a multi-spiral and having design choices suitable for various conditions such as ship applications and navigation areas. A spiral-shaft propulsion unit having steering functions added thereto by fixing on bearings the opposite ends of a shaft vertically going through the center of the rotating radius of a spiral shaft to restrict the deflection of the spiral shaft, providing up/down and right/left positions operating functions to the mounting portions of a head boss support case and a rear support plate to the hull, and operating the opposite ends of the spiral-shaft screw up/down, right/left directions in association with rudders. A bow rudder and a stern rudder having vertical, multi-segment structures, wherein shafts of different radii are used to link respective segments to gradually increase an operating angle with a decrease in shaft radius from the base toward the tip end of a rudder, whereby allowing rudder faces to operate in arc shapes by a simple traction operation.
