Description:
SPRAY GUN

This invention relates to a spray gun.

Spray guns are known comprising a handgrip through which compressed air flows, and a spray head with a central nozzle having a sized orifice and concentric to the feed duct for the liquid to be sprayed. The feed duct has its other end immersed in a vessel or cup operating by suction or by gravity. The spray head is generally fixed to the cup by the feed duct, which is rigid with the lid fitted to the cup.

This known fixing system has however certain drawbacks, and in particular:

- a heavy structure due to the substantial size which the feed duct must have in order to withstand the mechanical forces involved in screwing the cup to the lid and its unscrewing therefrom, - an "unbalanced" structure, imposing a certain fatigue on the user during use, arising from the arrangement of the handgrip considerably to the rear of the cup axis. This arrangement is necessary to enable the user to rest his fingers on the control lever, which is interposed between the feed duct and the handgrip.

These drawbacks are obviated according to the invention by a spray gun comprising a spry head with a nozzle and provided with a handgrip and a cup for containing the liquid

to be sprayed, as described in claim 1.

The present invention is described in detail hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawing, representing an exploded perspective view of a spry gun according to the invention.

As can be seen from the figure, the spray gun according to the invention comprises substantially a handgrip 1 for a spray head 2 fixed to a cup (not shown on the drawing) containing the liquid to be sprayed. Specifically, a plate 5 fixed to the cup lid 3 by screws 4 is provided with a hole 6 through which an insertion-type connector 7 engagable with the lower end of the handgrip 1 passes.

A profiled metal tube 10 is inserted via a connector 9 into the side of the spray head in a position corresponding with the sized-orifice nozzle 8. Said tube 10 passes through the cup lid 3, its other end terminating at the bottom of said cup.

A trigger-shaped lever 11 is hinged to the handgrip 1 for controlling the spray.

The spray gun of the invention is used as follows: the lid 3 with the plate 5 fixed to it and on which the handgrip 1 is mounted is fitted to the cup containing the

liquid to be sprayed.

The profiled tube 10 is then inserted into the cup through the lid 3. For this purpose the lid 3 is provided with a annular gasket, not shown on the drawing. On operating the trigger 11, the high velocity attained by the compressed air on expanding within the nozzle 8 causes the liquid to be drawn in, atomized and ejected in the form of a mist.

From the aforegoing it is apparent that the spray gun of the invention is of balanced and hence easily manageable structure because of the substantially coaxial arrangement of the cup and handgrip.

In addition the profiled shape of the tube enables the trigger to be operated without creating obstacles to the resting of the fingers thereon.
