Abstract:
A spring retainer where the set height and mass of a coil spring are reduced. The
spring retainer has a retainer body (3) fitted to a stem end (11) of a valve and also
has a circular, plate-like spring part (5) having an inner peripheral part (19)
supported by the retainer body (3) and elastically supporting an end (17) of a
valve spring (15). The spring constant K1 of the plate-like spring part (5) is
set higher than the spring constant K2 of the valve spring (15). This causes that
the plate-like spring part (5) is deflected after the valve spring (15) is completely
compressed to a point that the helical loops abut, providing two-stage load characteristics.
Also, the set height and the height in the completely compressed state of the valve
spring (15) can be minimized and the mass of the valve spring can be further reduced,
so that the height and mass of the spring retainer (1) can be further reduced. Consequently,
a spring system formed by assembling the spring retainer (1) and the valve spring
(15) can be reduced in size and weight.
