Abstract:
Disclosed is a high-strength spring steel which limits the depth of pitting when corroded and possesses superior resistance to pitting corrosion and corrosion fatigue properties; with a chemical composition of C greater than 0.35 wt% and less than 0.50 wt%, Si greater than 1.75 wt% and less than or equal to 3.00 wt%, Mn 0.2-1.0 wt%, Cr 0.01-0.04 wt%, P 0.025 wt% or less, S 0.025 wt% or less, Mo 0.1-1.0 wt% and O 0.0015 or less; which satisfies the condition that the value of PC calculated by PC = 4.2×([C]+[Mn])+0.1×(1/[Si]+1/[Mo])+20.3×[Cr]+0.001×(1/[N]) is greater than 3.3 and equal to or less than 8.0. Also disclosed is a preferred method of manufacture for same.
