A SQUIRT FREE EASY POURING POUCH
Technical Field
This invention in general relates to pouches for liquids as oil, milk, etc. The pouches are multi layered (Tetra pack like) or single layer pouches. This is an easy pouring low spill easy to carry pouch of single layer pouches.
State of Art Existing single layer pouches used for packing edible oil, milk spill contents at the time of cutting & pouring. A liter pouch may spill 15ml, often more. The pouch is tricky to hold (as it is smooth and without holding space) and cut by women. A family uses 800 pouches/ year in India. The yearly family and national losses will be in large volumes and millions of money as millions of pouches waste more collectively. Multi layer (plastic and aluminium foil as Tetra packs) are environment hazardous, take a longer time for degradation and costly in manufacture and sealing too. Single layer pouches are lower cost, lesser nature damaging and saving on oil and energy. Plastic pollution with high oil prices will need a simple single layer film pouches with easy holding, cutting and pouring. Theses are absent in all existing pouches till date. People hold the existing pouches at the top with left hand (by right hand people), pressing the contents while holding and then cut the corner with scissors in right hand to spill the contents or vice versa. Then, you have to tilt the pouch in to a vessel that may spill more. In a hurry, if we increase the holding pressure on the pouch, the spill may be 20% too. Hence there is a need for a pouch that is easy to carry, hold, cut and pour with no spill that can save the nation millions. The pouches are additionally packed in another plastic carry bag adding to cost & weight of plastic used. The plastic pollution now increases by two fold as each of these weigh lOgms each for one liter pouch. Eliminating this double pack with lower spill is new solution for reducing plastic pollution. Pouches are available as tubes with lower side sealed and after filling, top sealed.
Pouches are also made from long strips in a filling machine with heating elements electronically controlled for non leak sealing. There are pouches with a snout and a cap for snout at extra higher cost and weight. But these have no carrying handle segments. The sealing is by heat (electricity) that melts the polymer and welds both sides for leak proof joint.
The following description gives critical examination of the pouches known in the art. It also discusses the shortcomings of the conventional methods. Further in order to overcome the problem associated with spilling pouches, the invention offers the solution to overcome the impediments in the construction and the process of using the same.
Constraints in all existing pouches are as follows:
1. They have a large free extra space for non compression of contents.
2. They have no holding part, often has an additional costing pouch to carry. 3. They have no easy holding, cutting and pouring edges.
4. There is economic waste of precious contents as milk, cooking oil.
5. The time, work and cost of spill cleanup are disgusting.
6. There are two plastic bags to dispose off now in times of high oil costs. Accordingly the object of the invention is to identify the problem associated with the conventional pouches. An extensive search has been carried out using the Internet and related patent specifications were studied for pouches with low spill and pouring snout. The present invention is radically different, with better holding, use and saving. EP0701897 of Zavadsky Emil, Vietto Paolo, and Morandi Gionni is a thermoplastic, multilayer film suitable for use in water packaging comprises at least a gas-barrier layer, and an innermost surface, heat-sealable, layer welded as pouches with no snout or handles.
US Patent 5884758 of Sigouin is a liquid pouch with internal straw (for pouring) formed from film opposed sheet material with sealed circumferential edges to form an enclosed chamber. An internal straw restraining passage is formed by seals between the opposed side walls. The straw restraining passage communicates with the liquid chamber and a straw is held loosely captive inside the passage and axially displaceable. The liquid is drawn by the straw. This is not applicable for large volume pouches for oils, milk.

This has a rigid container with a movable lid hingedly secured to the container and has a downwardly projecting locking Hp which interlocks with the locking Hp of the container. A circular shaped spout of the Hd is externally threaded for engagement by the internally threaded screw cap. These are high weight plastics. US6145282 of Tsuruta is for a forming, filling and sealing machine for standing pouch with three sealing mechanisms for heat sealing a film, a folding mechanism for inwardly folding the middle part of the film along the longitudinal direction of the film, and an injection pipe for injecting in filling materials. A first sealing is along the longitudinal direction of the film. A second sealing mechanism heat seals at least the top of two ridge portions formed by the folding mechanism in the film along the longitudinal direction of the film. A third sealing mechanism is disposed below the injection pipe for horizontally heat sealing the film and cutting the heat sealed portion.
Pouches with snout and a carrying handle using single film polymer sheets are till date absent. It is thus an object of this invention to provide a practical pouches that does not have the shortcomings mentioned hereinabove. It is a further object of this invention to provide pouches with an easy pouring snout, easy carrying and cutting by kids too for a spill proof pouring.
Accordingly it is the primary objects of the invention to invent a novel ■ poaches, which is unique in design and construction, working and use. Further objects of the invention will be clear from the ensuing description.
Summary of the invention:
The new pouch is formed from two opposed single layer films with a bottom, side seals into which the liquid is poured. A top pouch sealing with inbuilt handle and

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The following specification describes salient features of invention, the method of construction, the method of use and the advantages of the novel invention. Existing conventional rectangular or square pouches Fig 3.A. made of preprinted plastic films like LDPE with a top 3, bottom 1, middle or side sealing2. The pouches are made from a long strip of film pulled into a pouch with bottom and side sealing, filled, then top sealing and cut of the pouch. This pouch has no easy holding handle. This is packed in an outer pouch with a handle slit for carrying. As we hold the filled pouch, Fig 3 B the liquid is compressed and bulges. The moment we cut the edge there is a spill that may be more, as we tilt to pour into a container Fig 3C. Increased holding pressure often increases the spill. So a spill decreasing easy carrying pouch will save us money and environment. The pouch is shown as simple rectangle as there are sealing machines that seal edges in a thin line. Some pouches may have a strip sealing with broader sealing too as in potato chips pouches.
The new pouch has a top fiised edge with a slit hole for carrying and a pouring snout. Creation of a snout helps in easy identification of place to cut and pour- a . useful feature for women. The second pouch is not needed. By lifting the handle part there is no tension on contents, the snout can be easily cut with no spill. The handle
helps in easy pouring with no spill too, even by kids. The films for pouches are pre printed with clean inside surface as liquid surface.
The new pouch comprises of a bottom straight weld or sealing (1). The side or middle sealing 2 forms the tube. The top has a handle seal 3 that slants up 4 forming a pouring snout 5. A slit 6 helps to carry the pouch. A cutting topmost seal 7 detaches the pouch.
To use, Fig.2.A. the pouch is now easily carried with the slit 6 for even one finger holding. As there is no compression of the pouch, no tension on contents in carrying Fig 2. B. The snout can be easily cut with no spill. To pour, the slit handle keeps the pouch steady for correct spill proof pouring into the desired container Fig 2.C.
The die in Fig 4 is a sealing (heating & welding) element of a pouch filling machine in which a single layer film tube rolls down. The bottom land side seal is done as of now. The pouch is filled. The top seal comprising of the lower seal with a slant forming a snout is made by heating (sealing) elementδ. The handle slit is cut by element 9. The top most seal is made by element 10 that seals and cuts off the pouch. Next pouch rolls down. As the tube fill rolls down the bottom seal is formed, liquid is filled, then top single stage multi sealing is done with filled pouch falling down and next pouch bottom already sealed for liquid filling. This chain in a filling machine forms high speed volume filling. For smaller manufactures, preformed pouches after filling are top sealed with the slit, snout. Or pouches with preformed top seal is filled and sealed straight at bottom easily.
For the purposes of the present application the term "film" is intended to refer to any flexible and flat or tubular flattened sheet of thermoplastic polymer material having a thickness as needed for the liquid weight filled. The terms "polymer" or "polymer resin" generally include but are not limited to, homopolymers, copolymers, such as for instance, block, graft, random, and alternating copolymers, etc. as well as blends and modifications thereof. This may be "polyolefin", obtained by polymerisation or copolymerisation of relatively simple (C2-C12) olefins, polyethylene and polypropylene, propylene copolymers, polyester or such films. The films may be preprinted on the outside with clean inner surface. For liquids destroyed by light simple two layer polymer and light blocking metal layer may be used as additional protection.
The pouches may be modified. The pouch can be in different shape, say hour glass, or an oval with flat top & bottom edges, etc. After the snout is cut a clipl 1 may be
placed across to close the snout. The clip may be made from metal wires as in paper clips or plastic holding clips to slide on the cut snout for temporary locking in of the liquids or removed for pouring as for packed water, juices, etc. The clip strength may be varied for the volume of packed fluid. The handle slit may be in center as in figures or to one side. Safe flexible materials such as cellulosics, glassine, polystyrene, copolymer film, polyethylene and the like may be used for pouch film. The thickness of film will vary for the quantity filled in the pouch. The pouch can be a stand up pouch with handle slit and snout too.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that modifications to the invention described herein can readily be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. Protection is sought for all the subject matter described herein including any such modifications.
Advantages of the new invention:
1. The new pouch is easy to carry with no fear of slipping.
2. The new pouch has a snout for correct easy cutting and pouring.
3. The new pouch is spill proof saving on cleaning and material costs.
4. The single layer pouch is less nature damaging, less oil and energy consuming. 5. This is cheaper.
6. There is no time wasted for spill cleanup.
7. The new pouches can replace large volume bottles that degrade environment more.
