Abstract:
 Provided are: a vinyl ether polymer that can express temperature responsive characteristics even when supported on a highly hydrophobic fibrous substrate; a hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity control agent containing said polymer; a hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity control method using said polymer; and a polymer-substrate complex in which said polymer is supported on a substrate. This star-shaped vinyl ether polymer has a central core and arms connect to the central core, said arms containing a repeating unit derived from a vinyl ether monomer. The molecules of the star-shaped vinyl ether polymer have a structure represented by formula (1) (in formula (1), Y represents an ether bond, a thioether bond, a group - NH - or a group - OR1 - * (where R1 represents an alkylene group, and * represents the position of the bond to Ar1 in formula (1)), Ar1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted divalent aromatic hydrocarbon group, and Ar2 represents a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group).
