A hydraulic power transmission device (1), wherein: a lockup piston (80) of a lockup clutch mechanism (8) is arranged on the opposite side from the side wall section (34) of a front cover (3) across first and second friction plates (83, 84); a damper device (10) is arranged on the opposite side from the first and second friction plates (83, 84) across the lockup piston (80); the outer peripheral section (80c) of the lockup piston (80) is located more toward the outer peripheral side than the outer peripheral section (85b) of a flange member (85); and a portion of the lockup piston (80) is arranged between first and second springs (SP1, SP2) and a third spring (SP3) of the damper device (10) with respect to the radial direction and within the range of the width (Wsp3) of the third spring (SP3), which is located closer to the lockup piston (80), with respect to the axial direction.
