Abstract:
A selection/distribution circuit (13) is provided between N optical transceivers (11) and one passive optical network (PON) control circuit (12). The selection/distribution circuit (13) selects one of the optical transceivers (11) corresponding to an uplink frame which arrives in time division, thereby transferring the uplink frame that has been opto-electrically converted by said transceiver (11) to the PON control circuit (12), and distributes downlink frames from the PON control circuit (12) to the optical transceivers (11). A power supply control circuit (23) suspends the supply of power to any of the optical transceivers (11) that are not being used to transfer the frame, and/or any circuits in the selection/distribution circuit (13) that are not being used to transfer the frame. By this means, the system cost per optical network unit (ONU) in an optical transmission system can be reduced.
