A steam valve (100) and a cooking appliance, the steam valve (100) comprising a valve seat (1) and a valve cover (2), an air inlet (12) being arranged on the valve seat (1), the valve cover (2) covering the valve seat (1) and defining with the valve seat (1) a sealed valve chamber (3) and a buffering chamber (4) positioned on the side of the valve chamber, an air outlet (21) being arranged on the valve cover (2), and the air inlet (12) and the air outlet (21) both being in communication with the valve chamber (3). The steam valve (100) reduces the active area of the high temperature steam with the valve cover (2) and the valve seat (1), reducing the degree of thermal deformation of the steam valve (100), which is equivalent to increasing the strength of the steam valve (100), and thereby allowing the size of the steam valve (100) to be increased whilst ensuring the strength of the steam valve (100), achieving balance between the anti-overflow capability and the strength of a large steam valve.
