Abstract:
Provided are: a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article, configured so that the steel cord has sufficient rubber penetration properties and at the same time can be manufactured with good productivity and so that, when applied to a tire, the steel cord enables a reduction in the weight of the tire without impairing the strength thereof; and a pneumatic tire using the steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article.
A steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article comprises: a core having two core filaments (1) arranged side-by-side without being twisted together; and six sheath filaments (2) twisted together around the core. If the diameter of the core filaments (1) is dc (mm), the diameter of the sheath filaments (2) is ds (mm), and the twist pitch of the sheath filaments (2) is p (mm), the average distance (D) between the sheath filaments expressed by the following formula is in the range of 25 - 80 μm.
