Abstract:
Provided is a production process for preventing a compound layer formed on a surface of a steel material by nitriding from being oxidized by induction hardening. In the process, an antioxidation coating film is less apt to have uneven thicknesses in different portions and, as a result, a nitrogen compound layer can remain evenly after the induction heating.
The process comprises subjecting a steel material to a combined heat treatment comprising a combination of nitriding and induction hardening, and is characterized by further involving, after the nitriding but before the induction hardening, a chemical treatment step in which a chemical conversion coating film is formed on the nitrogen compound layer formed on the steel by the nitriding.
