Abstract:
Provided is a steer-by-wire type steering device which is capable of transmitting or disconnecting power in a power transmission device in a short time and in a reliable manner. The steer-by-wire type steering device is provided with a steering wheel (1) which is not mechanically connected to a steering shaft (10) for turn steering; a steering angle sensor (2); a steering reaction force motor (4); and a steering control section (5a) which controls a steering shaft drive motor (6) and the steering reaction force motor (4). A power transmission mechanism (18) which transmits power from the steering shaft drive motor (6) to the steering shaft (10) is provided. A switching means (17) for transmitting/disconnecting power is provided at an intermediate position between the steering shaft drive motor (6) and the steering shaft (10). The switching means (17) is equipped with an input member (38) and output members (37, 21B), said both sets of members being axially disposed and being capable of axial movement and relative rotation; and a clutch mechanism (51) comprising a clutch groove (21Ba) which is provided in one of said both sets of members, and a clutch rolling body (54) which is provided in the other of said both sets of members and is radially biased toward the clutch groove (21Ba), thereby being engaged with or disengaged from the same due to axial movement.
