Abstract:
A rack shaft (110) is formed with a rolling surface (110c) narrower than the width of the rack tooth (110a) on the side of the axis (X) of the rack shaft opposite to the rack tooth, and also formed with a pair of slopes (110b) on both sides of the rolling surface (110c). Further, a cylindrical roller (123) is installed that rolls on the rolling surface (110c) of the rack shaft (110), and a support device (120) is installed that presses the cylindrical roller (123) toward the rack shaft (110); therefore, when a steering force is transmitted from a pinion (103a) to the rack shaft (110), the cylindrical roller (123) rolls on the rolling surface (110c), so that it is possible to allow axial movement of the rack shaft (110) with less resistance force.
