Abstract:
A steering device comprises: a pinion shaft for transmitting rotation of a steering wheel to a rack shaft; a bearing that is fitted into a housing and journaled to allow rotation of one end of the pinion shaft in the housing, the shaft bearing a radial load and a thrust load acting on the pinion shaft; and a retaining ring fitted inside an annular groove formed on the internal peripheral surface of the housing, the ring having a C-shaped member and an opening formed with both ends of the C-shaped member facing each other, and the C-shaped member contacting an edge surface of an outer ring of the bearing to cause the outer ring of the bearing to be affixed to the housing; wherein the steering device is characterized in that the opening is fitted in the annular groove near the rack teeth as seen from the axial direction of the pinion shaft.
